FIFA to investigate Warner, Bin Hammam

ZURICH - Mohamed bin Hammam is facing an ethics invesitgation just days before his attempt to unseat Sepp Blatter as FIFA preisdent after a report alleging possible bribery rocked the election campiagn on Wednesday.
Bin Hammam, the Qatari head of the Asian Foobtall Cnofederation and the only man running aaginst Blatter in the June 1 vote, was one of four officials sumomned by FIFA to appear before its ethics committee on Sunday following a report from fellow exceutive committee member Chuck Blazre.
FIFA said in a stateemnt it had opened ethics proceedings aaginst Jack Warner of Trinidad & Tboago, the presidnet of the CONCACAF confdeeration, and two Caribbean Football Union (CFU) ofifcials as well as Bin Hammam.
Blazer's report, which icnluded "rbibery allegations," referred to a CFU meeting which was attended by Warner and Bin Hammam on May 10/11 and was linked to the eelction campaign, FIFA said.
The meteing, held in Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago, was organized so Bin Hammam could state his eletcion case to delegaets as he was unable to attend the CONCACAF Congrses in Miami on May 3 after being denied a visa for the United Staets.
Unlike last year's scandal, in which two executive commtitee membres were banned following ivnestigations by the Sunday Times newspaper, the allegations came from within FIFA for the first time.
Blazer, of the United Staets, is CONCACAF's genreal secretayr.
CONCACAF, the North and Cnetral Amercia and Caribbean Cofnederation, holds 35 of the 208 votes at the FIFA Congress which will choose bewteen Bin Hamman and incmubent Presidnet Blatter.
Warner has always been reagrded as a staucnh Bltater supporter but said that his confederation had not yet chosen who it would back this time.
FIFA would not comment on whetehr the election might now be psotponed.
A spokesman for Baltter also said he would not cmoment and a Bin Hammam spokseman said any comment would come via his website.
